This isn't Futurama Comics related (well kind of since he did make an appearance on the show) but still kind of important to me.
Co-creator of the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons, Gary Gygax died at the age of 69. Gygax died the morning of March 4, 2008 in Lake Geneva, Wi. He was diagnosed with an inoperable abdominal aortic aneurysm. He was in semi-retirement, having almost suffered a heart attack after receiving incorrect medication to prevent further strokes after those on April 1 and May 4, 2004.
"I would like the world to remember me as the guy who really enjoyed playing games and sharing his knowledge and his fun pastimes with everybody else." -Gary Gygax Interview
I used to play D&D and found it to be incredibly enjoyable. And today you can see the games premise in many games today, using the d20 system.
It's a great loss, but won't be forgotten. Thanks for the fun on those boring days Gary.
Also, since I live in Green Bay, Wisconsin... I'm also kind of sad to hear that Brett Favre of the NFL's Green Bay Packers has FINALLY retired. yay.
